The CNC Workshop started more than 10 years ago at the North American Model Engineering Society (NAMES) show as an informal get together of those interested in CNC for the home shop, gathered around the exhibit tables of Roland Friestad. Quickly outgrowing the setup at the NAMES show, Roland moved the workshop to his Galesburg, IL shop, hosting it there until 2008. In 2010, Village Press took over the event and hosted it for three years in Ann Arbor, MI. Following a one-year hiatus a new sponsor and venue was found in TechShop Detroit, located in Allen Park, MI.
This is the second year the workshop will be held at TechShop. TechShop is 17,000 square foot, open to the public, DIY workshop and prototyping studio packed full of machines and software for designing and building nearly anything you can think of! Members to TechShop have 9am to midnight access to its equipment, software and training 7 days a week, year round. The CNC Workshop takes place inside various TechShop spaces such as a full machine shop, large conference rooms and a 182-seat theater. It is certainly an inspiring place to hold this event!
The location between Detroit and Ann Arbor is very convenient to the Metro Detroit area and is just 12 minutes from the Detroit Metro airport. As a bonus, it's just across the road from the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. The 2016 CNC Workshop will run between June 6th and 11th.
